An exceptional circa 1770 French, Louis XVI period bergère à oreilles with back, arms, seat, and squab cushion upholstered and frame with carved acanthus garland border around curved wing-back terminating into padded arm-rests and scroll carved arms with scale-diaper above Vitruvian scroll carved bow-front and side seat-rails all on fluted square tapering legs with carved acanthus sabots and rosette-corner blocks all in original paint. Seat depth is 22.5″ front to back. Overall depth from back of crest-rail to bowed front-seat rail is 48″. A rarely encountered form in excellent original condition.
