Rare and original circa 1816 New York classical mahogany settee most certainly attributed to the workshop of renowned New York City cabinetmaker Duncan Phyfe. This example is the upholstered settee version of the 'Grecian' caned sofa made by Phyfe for James Lefferts Brinckerhoff as shown in Peter M. Kenny's book, 'Duncan Phyfe: Master Cabinetmaker in New York', plate 18. Exquisite scrolled ends with fluted seat-rail on parcel-gilt carved lion's-paw-form supports. Excellent all original unrestored condition. Phyfe's sofa's are most commonly found, it is rare to find a small-scale settee such as this.
