Louis XVI Commode, Conrad Mauter, c. 1780
An exquisite, circa 1780, tulipwood, sycamore, kingwood, and ebony inlaid petite commode by important Paris cabinetmaker Conrad Mauter (maître 1777) having a Rosso Antico marble top above two locking drawers with geometric inlay and ormolu bronze escutcheons with bronze mounted corners on round tapered legs ending in bronze ferrules. Mauter was an exclusive supplier to the Count d’Artois, Louis XVI’s brother, who later became King Charles X. An exceptional example.
Condition: Excellent. Wear commensurate with age and use.
